About Us

MCT-I was founded by Dr Adrian Wells and Dr Hans Nordahl, both of whom are practising Clinical Psychologists and academics. They each have more than 20 years experience in assessing, treating and researching the causes of mental health problems.
Director: Adrian Wells
Adrian Wells holds the positions of Professor of Clinical and Experimental Psychopathology at the University of Manchester, UK and Professor II in Clinical Psychology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. He is honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the NHS.
Adrian Wells is the originator of MCT and a leading contributor to the development of Cognitive Therapy. He has published more than 130 scientific papers and also books and book chapters on understanding and treating psychological disorders.
Co-Director: Hans M Nordahl
Hans Nordahl holds the position of Professor in Clinical Psychology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway and is Consultant Clinical Psychologist. He is the head of the Trauma Clinic at Ostmarka Hospital.
Hans Nordahl is the co-founder of the Norwegian Association of Cognitive Therapy (NFKT) and a past president. He is responsible for the training program of supervisors in CBT in Norway. He has published over 60 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has specialist expertise in the areas of personality disorder, emotional disorders and supervision of therapists.
Objective of MCT-i

Understanding
MCT-I has been established to promote the understanding of psychological disorders and emotional distress using valid and reliable assessment techniques.
Effective treatment
MCT-I aims to improve access to evidence-based cognitive-therapy and to the newer metacognitive therapy.
Training
MCT-I aims to promote the competent and effective delivery of MCT and CBT.
Resources
MCT-I aims to make available self-help treatment packages for overcoming emotional suffering. |
